ARECA PALM(DYPSIS LUTESCENS) CARE

Areca palm(Dypsis lutescens) also know as yellow palm, butterfly palm and golden cane palm is a species of a  Arecaceae family. Areca palm  is native to Madagascar and naturalized in the Andaman Islands and other.Areca palm is a decorative plant grow at gardens, office and houseplants.

Soil
           Areca palm can grow well in normal garden soil. For best growth result and well drainage you can use soil with peat moss, sand, shredded bark or leaf mold. 

Watering
                 Areca palm watering in summer 2-3 time a week, water properly make sure water come out from drainage hole and next watering when pot soil dry out 1inch. Don't overwatering your areca palm thats damage plant roots. Overwatering sign is plant leaves tips get yellow then brown. Underwatering  sign is leaves curl and tips get brown. Areca palm like high humidity so misting daily in summer, humidity Range is 40-60%.

Sunlight
                Areca palm grow properly in middium to bright indirect sunlight.Morning time 1-2 hour  direct sunlight is ok for areca palm but full day direct sunlight burn areca palm leaves. Indoor areca palm place to fornt of window can't survive without light.

Fertilize
                Areca palm fertilize in spring  and summer every month that is areca growing season. You can use liquid fertilize or vermi compost. 
 
Temperature
                        Areca palm suitable temperature  range is 16-24°C(65-75°F), Areca palm can't survive in low temperature then 10°C.

Size
            Areca palm grow 6 to 12 meters (20 to 39ft), fornds are arched, 2-3 meters long and pinnate, with 40-60 pairs of leaflets and indoor  areca palm grow 2 - 3 meters (6 - 10ft) height. 

Propagation
                         Areca palm can't propagate from cutting or air layering, for new plant you need to divide your old areca palm from roots in two pots. Areca palm propagation
Pruning
                Prune areca palm old and dead brown canes and leaf tips, that is necessary for new growth, no  any season just look on dead canes then cut off.
